Thanks for sharing Catherine. Indeed Thomas Edison literally gave us our modern standards of living. His 4 big inventions were recorded sound, motion pictures, the electric light bulb and utility industry, and the concept of commercial R&D labs. Just recently, the Voice of America proclaimed that the wonderful products and technology that came out of the Edison labs in West Orange are probably responsible for creating 25% of the jobs in all the world! Now there is a statement that needs no further clarification. Edison gave the world more lasting practical value than any other human before. Life magazine named him the Man of the Millennium.

I grew up in West Orange NJ and when people ask me where I grew up, I tell them WO, home of Thomas Edison and I tell them to visit the museum and home. My grandfather emigrated from the Ukraine and came to US through Ellis Island and went to work for Thomas Edison for 40 years.
